New design
The Infinix Zero 5G has an interesting design. The back is curved and quite glossy, and it slopes up to seamlessly meet the cameras. This finish makes its back panel is a bit of a fingerprint magnet. Although the material may look like glass, the phone is actually made of plastic and it feels like it too. The volume rocker and the fingerprint reader cum power button are on the same side of this phone. The latter is clicky and quite responsive, waking up and unlocking the phone in an instant.
Cameras (with a telephoto)
As for the cameras, on Infinix Zero 5G there’s a 48 MP, f/1.8, 26mm (wide), 1/2.0″, 0.8µm, PDAF, 13 MP, f/2.5, 50mm (telephoto), 1/3.1″, 1.12µm, PDAF, 2x optical zoom and a third 2 MP lens. The main camera captures decent 12-megapixel photos by default. There’s an average amount of detail and fine patterns also get displayed. Shots from the 2X times telephoto are quite different from the main cameras because of the more fine detail and a more pleasant color rendition. Portraits with either the main or the telephoto camera.
Selfies are taken with its 16 MP, f/2.0, (wide), 1/2.76″, 1.12µm front-facing camera. Their detail and colors are on point and the dynamic range isn’t too bad. The selfie camera is usable at night too. Thanks in part to the phone’s dual-LED flash. Videos can be captured at 4K@30fps, and 1080p@30/60fps with this phone’s main camera. The videos come out great In terms of detail and dynamic range. Selfies videos are capped at 1080p@30fps which is acceptable. There is electronic stabilization available for your video recording, but you’re limited to 1080p.
Display and Audio
The screen of the Infinix Zero 5G is a 6.78-inch IPS LCD with a 1080 x 2460 resolution and a 120 Hertz refresh rate. The high refresh rate is adaptive, meaning that it can dial down depending on the content on-screen to save power. It makes movement on the screen more fluid. With a pixel density of 388 PPI, this screen looks plenty sharp, but sadly it has no HDR support of any kind. For audio, the Zero 5G has a traditional headphone jack and a single bottom-firing speaker. This speaker scores a good rating on loudness charts. Its sound quality is okay with decent sounding highs.
Performance
Powering Infinix Zero 5G is a MediaTek MT6877 Dimensity 900 5G (6 nm) chipset. It provides solid midrange performance which interestingly outclasses MediaTek G-series chipsets. Oh, and battery life is great too. The Zero 5G has a large Li-Po 5000 mAh, non-removable battery with an endurance rating of 140 hours. Although despite having a decent size 33W adapter, with it, it goes from 0 to 30% in half an hour. The Infinix Zero 5G smartphone comes with 128 GB of storage onboard. This storage is expandable via a micro SD card.
Platform
This phone runs XOS 10 which features extensive customizations. It still is based on Android 11. Besides customization, there is also a tone of extra pre-installed apps too. One difference from stock Android you’ll notice immediately is that the standard notification shade is divided into a separate notification center and a control center. The home screen is really customizable too. You can choose from different swipe actions and even set your own font color. Cool feature right? You also get a dedicated game launcher that lets you tune your gaming experience. Things like an AI assistant, smart connectivity, a system-wide translator, and power-saving controls are also feature available on this 5G phone.
Our take
The Infinix Zero 5G brings a new and fresh look, a large 120 Hertz LCD, a decent chipset with 5G connectivity, and excellent battery life. Plus you get a telephoto lens which is not too common at this price. Save for a not-so-bright display, and kind of slow charging (relative), this is an easy to recommend smartphone.
